Make it easy to start a hole with a hand-held core drill. The carbide-tipped centering bit (ordered separately), with the stablizer square helps stabilize the core bit (ordered separately) until it penetrates the surface being drilled. After the core bit is sufficiently started, the starter bit and stablizer square are easily and quickly removed.
